How do you interpret this passage of scripture?

Song of Solomon 6:1-5 (King James Version):

1Whither is thy beloved gone, O thou fairest among women? whither is thy beloved turned aside? that we may seek him with thee.

2My beloved is gone down into his garden, to the beds of spices, to feed in the gardens, and to gather lilies.

3I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine: he feedeth among the lilies.

4Thou art beautiful, O my love, as Tirzah, comely as Jerusalem, terrible as an army with banners.

5Turn away thine eyes from me, for they have overcome me: thy hair is as a flock of goats that appear from Gilead.

King Solomon was in love with a Shulammite girl but her love was for a shepard boy where she lived in Shunem. Solomon expresses his desires for him but she do not awaken her love for him because it is for someone else and he is in want of her. All of Solomons riches did not waver her love in Shunem.

Christian art… …idolatry?

Friday, February 6th, 2009

Sometimes I hear fundies saying that Catholic artwork (statues, paintings, etc.) is "idolatry", which I know is bad scripture interpretation to put it nicely, or a load of crap to put it bluntly. But I purchased the movie "The Agony and the Ecstasy" starring Charlton Heston as Michaeangelo, and I thought about the love and the toil that he and others put into their art for the sake of beauty and for the glory of God. It made me wonder if people really know what they are saying when they denounce such beauty. I know it was just a movie, but it was very moving.
Has anyone ever seen "The Agony and the Ecstasy"? If not, I highly recommend it. The best parts are at the end. Here is a link to it: http://www.amazon.com/Agony-Ecstasy-Charlton-Heston/dp/B0006GANX2
Also, here is a Youtube link to video of Michaelangelo's work in the Sistine Chapel:

If any of you have seen the movie, I'd like to hear your comments

I'm sure there are some who see it that way (as idolatry) but then I also see quite a few evangelicals put up a Nativity scene at Christmas (including a figure of Mary!). I wonder how many spend a few minutes contemplating the figures and thinking about our Lord's birth — certainly isn't worship, so how they differentiate between that and how a Catholic sees a religious statue is beyond me.

Then there are all of the really nice, inspirational posters and wall plaques and figurines in places like the Family Christian Bookstores. Do people buy these images for their homes but scrupulously avoid looking at them, lest they cross that line into worshipping images? I doubt it, and if so then why have them in the first place?

They're reminders … oh, that's right.

And so it is with the religious art and statuary in my own home.

Which has more authority, scripture or the Word of God?

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

If you picked scripture then you believe in Moses and the prophets. — If you picked the Word of God, then you believe in Jesus, and the Father, who art in heaven. — Who's teachings do you follow—Moses–or–Jesus. — If you choose both, then Revelation 2:9, and 3:9 was made for you.
This question is in "Choose the best answer mode, but it has no "No best answer" submit button

Therefore I will state before the voting is complete, There is no best answer.

Scripture has been fulfilled, the Word of God has not. Jesus is the Living Word of God. Jesus said the heaven and earth will pass but my words shall never pass.

JOHN 1, 1-2

BOTH…….

……and the word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning.

God is Almighty, And his Word.

Religion is man-made, so why do we need them as true christians? Please answer based on scripture.?

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
John 3:6 (KJV)

Religion is born of the flesh, and just another man-made structure to get our goofy pride caught up and separate us from the holy spirit.

Have you ever heard:
'I'm a baptist!' ? What's a baptist. I don't recall it in scripture.

Then of course you have the fake religions that have many unholy practices like Jehovah Witnesses, Mormon, or Catholicism (which teaches idolatry).

Ever heard a Jehovah Witness's spill?
'Watch out for paganism!' Well, I hate to break this to you, but your religion was created by a pagan. A high ranking member of secret society (check it for yourself! - free masonry) and he brought some wicked practices to the religion. Mormons, same thing- secret and very unholy society.

Catholics? Where do i start? How much graven art and pagan idols do you really need?!

I am aware that many free masons (some that i personally know and love) are not aware of dangers

True Christians recognize that even the worst sinner (or pagan) can become reconciled to God and Christ.

(Isaiah 1:18) Though the sins of you people should prove to be as scarlet, they will be made white just like snow

Yet there were no pagans among those taking the lead in establishing the modern Jehovah's Witness religion. While some anti-Witnesses pretend that C.T.Russell was a member of "Freemasonry", Russell himself denied this in repeated speeches and writings.

Sadly, too many embrace the outrageous accusations of anti-Witnesses without even pretending to point to any real evidence. It would seem that the majority of anti-Witness hatred is motivated by religious intolerance and bigotry. A few may even be motivated against their Christian worship by the unseen 'god of this system of things', Satan the Devil.

(2 Corinthians 4:4) the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers

Interestingly, such "hatred" should be expected by true Christians in this time of the end, and it actually helps identify Jehovah's Witnesses as Christ's true disciples:

(John 15:19) If you were part of the world, the world would be fond of what is its own. Now because you are no part of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, on this account the world hates you.

(Luke 6:22) Happy are you whenever men hate you, and whenever they exclude you and reproach you and cast out your name as wicked for the sake of the Son of man.

(1 Peter 4:4) Because you do not continue running with them in this course to the same low sink of debauchery, they are puzzled and go on speaking abusively of you.

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

It seems signficant that the relatively small religion of Jehovah's Witnesses are the ones best known for their worldwide preaching work. Yet Jesus commanded that ALL who would call themselves "Christian" perform this public work:

(Matthew 28:19,20) Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you. And, look! I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.

What did people do before printing made the Bible available?

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

Before there was a New Testament and before people had ready access to scripture, they were taught orally by the Church. The Church transmitted the deposit of faith orally from generation to generation. The gospel was taught through sermons, through music and through art, but mostly through the liturgy of the mass.

The mass teaches the gospel better than any other method.

In the early days, much was done by traveling people like missionaries. Other methods were letters sent on by couriers.

Catholics, who comprise the majority of Christians in the world, believe that it has never changed.

We believe that our church was founded by Christ and that he is leading it into all truth.

The point is that while reading the bible is a good thing in itself, you WILL need help understanding what you are reading, as the bible isn’t so much “A” book as a large collection of books of different types.

The thought that missionaries, preachers, and priests is a far more modern creation or idea spawned by man than they would like you to think. Here is an article that gives some explanation. http://www.usnews.com/blogs/faith-ma…mentalism.html Whats particularly interesting is the last line of the article!!

Here is another article: http://www.shellier.co.uk/fundamentalism.htm

Its best to be wary of they who speak of the lack of necessity for “proper teachers”……they speak with a “forked tongue”.

How could you believe that all you need to believe in God and be saved is believe in the Bible only, if you never even saw one?

Many people were laborers and couldn’t read or write. That’s why they rang to bells so that the people that were in the fields could know that 12:00 was the time and they usually stopped work and did the Angeli’s.
The stain glass windows were also away for them to understand the Scripture, for they would read the pictures depicted in them. then of course they would get scripture in the church from the homilies. Plus bibles were few and far between because they had to be hand written. which took a long time. God bless you.

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

i love design…it's a hobby, though what i studied in college. i would love to be able to offer some of the designs as i usually do work on my photos with scripture and inspirational words. how should i prepare them to try and market or seel? or go about asking local coffee shops to sell?

Have you thought about putting your stuff on canvas and selling it at local art fairs?

You can make maybe 50 reproductions on canvas and make the photo limited editions… People like to know they wont have the same thing as anyone else.

Then go to local art fairs and sell it.

Congratulations on going for your dream!! :)
