Christian Artwork

Posted by admin on January 23, 2009 - 12:00 am

Christian artwork is worship art.

Christian Paintings inspire faith. Sometimes christian artwork, Scripture art, Bible and Biblical art, prayer art, Jesus paintings, Jesus drawings and Jesus art often reveal the prophetic dreams and visions artists may have.

Christian art communicates the message of truth. Christian art is an expression of faith, hope and love. The christian artist has an ability to communicate and express everything visually necessary to plainly reveal truth. [That] being said, truth is the goal and purpose of Christian artwork.

Christian art is not meant for the artist, although the artist benefits through the process. Rather…..meant to make a statement, Christian art is for the all the world to see!

Some Christian artwork could easily be classified as contemporary paintings. These paintings capture the emotion of the spirit….conceptualizing the depth of the creative spirit!

How do you interpret this passage of scripture?

How do you interpret this passage of scripture?

Song of Solomon 6:1-5 (King James Version):

1Whither is thy beloved gone, O thou fairest among women? whither is thy beloved turned aside? that we may seek him with thee.

2My beloved is gone down into his garden, to the beds of spices, to feed in the gardens, and to gather lilies.

3I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine: he feedeth among the lilies.

4Thou art beautiful, O my love, as Tirzah, comely as Jerusalem, terrible as an army with banners.

5Turn away thine eyes from me, for they have overcome me: thy hair is as a flock of goats that appear from Gilead.

King Solomon was in love with a Shulammite girl but her love was for a shepard boy where she lived in Shunem. Solomon expresses his desires for him but she do not awaken her love for him because it is for someone else and he is in want of her. All of Solomons riches did not waver her love in Shunem.

Christian art… …idolatry?

Posted by admin on February 6, 2009 - 8:37 am

Sometimes I hear fundies saying that Catholic artwork (statues, paintings, etc.) is "idolatry", which I know is bad scripture interpretation to put it nicely, or a load of crap to put it bluntly. But I purchased the movie "The Agony and the Ecstasy" starring Charlton Heston as Michaeangelo, and I thought about the love and the toil that he and others put into their art for the sake of beauty and for the glory of God. It made me wonder if people really know what they are saying when they denounce such beauty. I know it was just a movie, but it was very moving.
Has anyone ever seen "The Agony and the Ecstasy"? If not, I highly recommend it. The best parts are at the end. Here is a link to it: http://www.amazon.com/Agony-Ecstasy-Charlton-Heston/dp/B0006GANX2
Also, here is a Youtube link to video of Michaelangelo's work in the Sistine Chapel:

If any of you have seen the movie, I'd like to hear your comments

I'm sure there are some who see it that way (as idolatry) but then I also see quite a few evangelicals put up a Nativity scene at Christmas (including a figure of Mary!). I wonder how many spend a few minutes contemplating the figures and thinking about our Lord's birth — certainly isn't worship, so how they differentiate between that and how a Catholic sees a religious statue is beyond me.

Then there are all of the really nice, inspirational posters and wall plaques and figurines in places like the Family Christian Bookstores. Do people buy these images for their homes but scrupulously avoid looking at them, lest they cross that line into worshipping images? I doubt it, and if so then why have them in the first place?

They're reminders … oh, that's right.

And so it is with the religious art and statuary in my own home.

can anyone give me a thesis statement on Christian Art?

along the lnes of what u understand from it..what i means to you and what are the connotations attached.

Christian Art: Innocent display of religious piety or propaganda for Christian dominance?

Of course you will get some brainiac that won't understand what you are asking for and they'll give you 3 or 4 paragraphs of cut & paste drivel trying to explain the concept completely….!

Athiests: Why Do Christans Portray Jesus As European?

Posted by admin on February 6, 2009 - 8:37 am

From my understanding, Jesus was born in present-day Iraq. Wouldn’t that make him a dark-skinned, arab.

How come in Christian paintings/art work he always has such light skin and features….As if he is from Northern Europe?

If you don’t believe in him why does it matter.

Why do the people painted in Ethiopian Christian Art have such large eyes?

Posted by admin on February 6, 2009 - 8:37 am

I love the artwork by the way and was just curious as to why they usually draw figures with large eyes, sort of similar to the eyes on figures in Persian Art.

I think because they suck at art.
